Accredited Analytics

Accredited chemical analysis
of inorganic materials and materials.

In the field of chemical analysis, which has been accredited for more than ten years, Fraunhofer ISC offers precise analysis and testing of inorganic materials. Many years of experience in wet chemical digestion round off the range of services.

Accredited chemical surface analysis

Accredited surface analytics

The surfaces of materials are of particular importance in many applications. Haptics, optics, corrosion behavior, electrical conductivity, wetting behavior, adhesion and many other properties are largely determined by the chemistry on the surface. We can investigate these with the aid of modern methods such as XPS or SEM.
Another important aspect is the assessment of cleanliness. This is crucial, for example, for optical components or for the packaging of medical and pharmaceutical products. Here, the analysis of contaminations and their origin plays an important role.

Main testing methods

Surface sensitive measurement methods:

  • X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS or ESCA)
  • ToF-SIMS and SNMS are available through accredited cooperation partners

Offers

  • Determination of surface composition
(a few nanometers of information depth)
  • Identification of surface contaminants and deposits

Accredited electron microscopy

Accredited electron microscopy
© K. Dobberke for Fraunhofer ISC

The basis of the analysis of the material structure is the examination by means of electron microscopic methods. Imaging the topography and material composition from the millimeter down to the nanometer scale leads to a comprehensive understanding of the material structure.

Various electron microscopes with a wide range of analysis options are available at Fraunhofer ISC. They are operated by scientifically trained staff. Particular emphasis is placed on material preparation that is as free of artifacts as possible as a key technology for meaningful analysis, as well as on the microlab in the SEM, where material properties can be measured in situ on the micrometer scale.

Main testing methods

  • High resolution field emission scanning electron microscopy
  • Ion beam preparation for material preparation in the microscope

Offers

  • High-resolution representation of the surface and cross-sectional area of a material
  • Representation of the morphology of particles
  • Elemental analysis of individual particles or even the entire material

  • Determination of material parameters, also under magnification
  • Interpretation of the results under consideration of the problem
